Is 4th Job in MapleStory Classic at Launch? What We Know
Is 4th job in MapleStory Classic at launch? What Nexon has said, how the level 120 advancement worked in 2007, and how to build a character for it.
Nexon has not confirmed whether 4th job will be available when MapleStory Classic opens to founders on 6 October 2026. There is no official statement either way. Our expectation, based on how the original game rolled out and how other classic relaunches have been staged, is that 4th job arrives in a later phase rather than on day one, but that is a guess and we will correct it the moment Nexon says something. If 4th job matters to your plans, build for it anyway. It does not cost you anything and it will pay off whenever Leafre opens.
What 4th job was in 2007
4th job came to GMS in 2007 with Leafre, roughly two years after the game launched here; our content timeline has the patch order and dates. Before that, level 70 was the last advancement and level 120 was just a number. When Leafre opened, level 120 became the gate: you spoke to your 3rd job instructor in El Nath, got sent to Leafre to find the 4th job instructors, and did a short quest chain to prove you were ready. For most people that chain involved killing Manons and Griffeys for their forehead and wing, and then paying for the advancement itself.
The advancement gave you a handful of new skills, but with a catch that defined the era. Most 4th job skills started at level 0 with a cap of 10, and to raise the cap you needed mastery books. Two per skill, roughly: one to take the cap from 10 to 20, another from 20 to 30. Each book had a success rate, often 50% or 70%, and if it failed you needed another one.
Mastery books dropped from Leafre monsters and bosses. Some were common. Some, like the books for Maple Warrior or the top-tier attack skills, were rare enough that a single copy sold for more than most players earned in a month. That is the piece people forget: 4th job was not a level you reached, it was a shopping list you worked through for a year.
Why the wait defined the era
From level 70 to 120 in old Maple was the longest stretch in the game. Fifty levels, exponentially more exp each one, at maps that did not change much: Skelegons, Death Teddies, Gallopera, the Ludibrium Clock Tower. If Classic follows the pre-Big Bang curve, that stretch is measured in months for a dedicated player and years for a casual one.
That wait shaped everything. It made 3rd job characters the practical endgame for most of the population. It made Zakum Helmets the best gear for years because so few people were above 120 to need anything else. And it made every 4th job character on the server a minor celebrity. We remember standing in the Free Market watching a level 125 Night Lord practice Triple Throw on nothing, just because none of us had seen it in person.
There was a social side too. Leech, which we cover in the mage leeching post, only became a serious business once 4th job Bishops and Arch Mages existed. Genesis and Blizzard could hold a map alone. Before that, leech existed on a small scale, a few high-level I/L mages with Ice Strike. After, it was an economy.
How to plan a character for it
Even if 4th job is months away, the decisions you make at level 30 and 70 will still matter at 120. A few things we would do.
Pick a class with a good 4th job. Every class got stronger, but not equally. Night Lords and Bishops went from strong to dominant. Paladins and Dragon Knights were fine but never caught up in raw damage. Dark Knights with Berserk were the exception among warriors. If you want to be wanted at Zakum in a year's time, that matters. Our class guide has the full picture.
Save your skill points properly. Old Maple had no free SP resets. A misplaced point at 3rd job stayed misplaced. Look up a period-accurate build for your class and follow it, boring as that sounds, because the mistake you make at 75 is the one you are still looking at when you hit 120.
Do not waste mesos on gear that 4th job replaces. A 2nd job weapon with two Chaos Scrolls on it is fun but it will be worthless by 110. Put that money into scrolls for gear you will still wear: a Work Glove, a Zakum Helmet if it becomes available, a good cape. Those carry through.
Think about HP. Warriors are fine. Everyone else, if Classic keeps the old HP washing mechanics, needs to decide early whether to wash, because 4th job bosses hit hard and a level 120 Night Lord with 3,000 HP was a liability. The HP washing post explains what that involved.
What we expect from Nexon
Our best guess is that 4th job lands a few months after launch, alongside Leafre, as its own phase, which mirrors the original GMS order and keeps the 3rd job economy alive long enough that Ilbis are worth farming. Where that phase sits among the others is in the roadmap post.
If we are wrong and it is in at launch, the server will move faster and the mid-game will be shorter. Either way, the character you build in October should be one you would be happy to take to Leafre. Pick the class for its 4th job, put your skill points where the old guides say, and let the wait be part of it. It was, last time, and we still talk about it.
