Meso Prices in MapleStory Classic, Launch to Month Six
What MapleStory Classic mesos cost per 100M at launch, why the price falls within weeks, and how to read a quote before you buy or sell anything.
Mesos in MapleStory Classic will be worth the most in the first two or three weeks after 6 October, and then they will get cheaper for months. That is not a prediction so much as a pattern. Every fresh Maple world we have watched since 2005 has followed the same curve, and there is no reason to think Classic will be different. If you are trying to work out whether a price is fair, the short answer is that it depends almost entirely on how old the server is.
One thing before the numbers: buying mesos breaks Nexon's terms and accounts do get banned for it, so read our honest take on buying at launch before you spend a single krona.
What mesos cost in old GMS
Nobody kept a proper index, so what follows is memory plus a few old forum threads. Treat it as a shape, not a spreadsheet.
When a new world opened in the 2006 to 2008 era (Bera, Broa, Windia, Khaini), the first week was absurd. A single million mesos could go for several US dollars, because there simply were not many mesos in existence. A level 30 with a Work Glove and 500k was rich. Sellers were mostly players who had rushed to a good farming spot and had nothing to spend on yet.
By the second or third month, prices on those same worlds had dropped by something like two thirds. Mid-2007 on an established world like Scania, 10 million mesos was a cheap enough purchase that teenagers were doing it with birthday money. By 2009, after a couple of duplication exploits and years of leech, 100 million on the older worlds cost less than a pizza.
| Server age | Rough feel of the price | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Week 1 to 3 | Very high per million | Almost no supply, everyone wants a starter fund |
| Month 2 to 3 | Falling fast | Merchants, 3rd jobbers farming, early leech |
| Month 6 plus | Low and flat | Mature economy, mesos everywhere |
We remember paying something silly for 2 million on Broa in its first month, because a friend had found a Steely and we wanted it before someone else did. He got it. It was a bad deal and we would do it again.
Why launch is the peak
Three things happen at once on day one. Supply is close to zero because nobody has hit 3rd job. Demand is enormous because every player needs a weapon upgrade, potions for Kerning PQ, and 10% scrolls that are still selling for real money. And the people who would normally undercut each other, the merchants and the meso farmers, have not built their stock yet.
That gap closes fast. Within a fortnight the first second-jobbers are farming Zombie Lupins on the Sleepywood side around the clock, and the price of a Work Glove has halved. The price of a meso follows.
What drives the price down
Leech, merchants stockpiling, and the plain fact that every dead monster adds mesos to a pool that only ever grows; how mesos worked in old Maple walks through that whole arc. The one thing that post does not cover is duplication.
Old GMS had at least two serious meso dupes that we lived through, and each one crashed the price for months. Nexon has not said anything about how Classic will police this, so we will not guess, but if a dupe happens the price of a meso will fall off a cliff overnight and anyone holding a large stack will lose most of its value.
How to read a price per 100M
Most sellers quote in units of 100 million. That number is useless on its own. What you want to compare is the price per 100M against the server age, and against what 100M actually buys in-game that week. At launch, 100M might not even be available. Two months in, 100M is a good Ilbi set. Six months in, it is a well scrolled overall and change.
A few things to check before treating a quote as real:
- Is the price for a specific world, or a blanket figure copied from another site?
- Does it move week to week? A price that has not changed since the site went up is not a price, it is decoration.
- Is there a minimum order that quietly changes the per-100M rate?
- Are they buying as well as selling? A shop that only sells has no idea what the market is doing.
What our pricing will follow
We will price off the Free Market, not off other meso shops. Every few days we look at what a Chaos Scroll, a clean Dark Ilbi throwing star set and a Work Glove 10 attack are going for, and we set the meso price so that real money buys roughly what a hard week of play buys. Early on that means expensive mesos. Later it means cheap ones, and we would rather drop the price than sit on stock.
If you want to look before launch, the shop has a placeholder rate up now that will change the moment the servers open. Most of what we sell comes from players who sold to us on Discord in the first place, which is the other reason the price has to track the Free Market.
As for when to buy, if at all, the honest take has our answer. The short version is that it is not day one, and the long version is worth ten minutes before you spend anything.
